06.07.2008
GOVERNOR
Babatunde
Fashola (SAN) of Lagos State’s efforts of encouraging sports since his election was a strong factor that made delegates to the forthcoming election congress to nominate the state to host the rest of Africa in electing a new executive council for the Confederation of African Hand Ball (CAHB) scheduled to take place from September 23 to 28, 2008.
The CAHB headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, has confirmed that the 100 delegates had chosen Lagos, which in the 70s and 80s used to be the alternative home to the continent in handball.
The historical memory coupled with the strides of the governor which other nations have followed endeared their hearts to return to Lagos.
CAHB secretariat and executives will be arriving on September 23. The Council meeting will hold the next day. Delegates to the Congress will arrive on September 24.
The opening ceremony will be on the 25th where the President of the International Handball Federation (IHF), Dr Hassan Moustpha, CAHB President, Christophe Yapo, will be expected.
