Kanu set for new Pompey contract

Porthsmouth FA Cup hero, Nwankwo Kanu is close to agreeing a one-year contract with Portsmouth after going back on his demands for a second year.

Nigerian striker, Kanu, 31, told Pompey he deserved a two-year deal for scoring the winning goals in the semi-final and final at Wembley.

But after further talks, the former Arsenal star is happy to stay at Fratton Park. Kanu has been adamant for a new two-year contract rather than the rolling 12 months for 20 appearance agreement that they have had in place, but Kanu has now insisted everything is resolved.

"There are just some little details that we need to discuss," he said. "But I will sign the contract." Kanu said: "There are just some little details we need to discuss but I will sign the contract. "I would have been happier if the club had offered me a longer contract."

Rumours tipping the FA Cup hero for a departure have gathered steam in recent weeks, as he had delayed the signing of a new 12-month deal that has been on the table since January. The Super Eagles skipper however calmed concerns that he will elect to leave Fratton Park in the summer.
