Niger Delta Summit:
CLO urges FG to replace Gambari
06.07.2008
The Civil Liberties
Organisation has
called on President Umaru Yar'Adua to replace Prof. Ibrahim Gambari with a more acceptable person to head the Niger Delta summit.
In a statement on Friday, in Jos, signed by its President, Titus Mann, CLO said the appointment of Gambari could terminate the summit even before it starts.
According to it, “we believe the choice of Prof. Gambari was not well thought out.”
The organisation said, “if the Federal Government is concerned to have as chairman of the summit a person of international recognition and standing, surely there are several of such persons.”
It said a meeting of such magnitude under people like Justice Oputa, Professor Wole Soyinka, Chief Emeka Anyaoka and Olisa Agbakoba was credible enough and would engender confidence in all stakeholders.
