Kogi to investigate govt house fire

The Kogi State government has said that it would find out the cause of the Saturday’s fire at the Government House in Lokoja. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Richard Elesho, said this in a statement he gave to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Monday.

According to him, the timely intervention of security personnel saved the house from what would have been a major fire disaster. The statement said security men on duty saw a smoke coming from the residential area of the house at about 9.00 p.m. and raised the alarm.

“In a short time, a combined team of fire fighters, security operatives and some government officials mobilised to put out the fire,” Richard said.

He said damage to property was not much, since the fire mainly affected the roof of a house in one of the residential houses. Richard said that the immediate cause of the fire was yet to be known.

He commended the men of the fire service, the security operatives and others, who stopped the fire from spreading.

The affected house, located a few metres away from the governor’s office, was built about 16 years ago following the creation of the state in 1991.
