Akunyili appointed board member of GAIN

The Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Dora Akunyili, has been appointed a member of the Board of Directors of the Geneva-based Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Mr. Abubakar Jimoh, Head, Public Relations Unit of NAFDAC.

The statement quoted GAIN’s Executive Director, Marc Van Ameringen, as saying that the appointment was in recognition of Akunyili’s immense contributions to food fortification.

“This is in appreciation for your contribution in universal salt iodisation and fight against malnutrition in Nigeria through effective regulatory activities.

“Your addition to the board is highly valued and we look forward to your contribution in board discussions and the resulting direction given to GAIN,’’ he said.
