OBAFEMI Martins wants to join the likes of Alan Shearer and Malcom MacDonald as an all-time great centre forward at Newcastle.

The Nigerian forward scored a brilliant opening goal to put Newcastle in the drive in the 3 - 0 spanking of Reading at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

Martins conjured up memories of the kind of goal Shearer scored in his pomp with a rasping strike against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in January 2007 and scored another brilliant goal against the same team last Sunday at the same place as Newcastle dazed Spurs 4-1.

“Sometimes some fans say I am a legend to me, and I always says,” no, no – Alan Shearer is a legend”.

“I’m not a legend yet! There is hard work to do before people can rightfully say that,” added the striker.
