AMAC/Bwari council election holds today

Ayodele Adesanmi, Abuja - 06.04.2008

VOTING did not take place on Saturday in AMAC/Bwari Local Council Area in the re- run National Assembly election of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which led to its postponement till today.

The postponement which came from the National Independent Electoral Commission {INEC}was sequel to a protest by some party chieftains on the alleged disappearance of some electoral materials after a visit by the FCT Minister, Dr Umar Modibbo, to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission at 2am on Saturday.

This, however, led to a mild drama and protest by some youths and some party chieftains of contesting political parties who came to the INEC office, protesting that some ballot boxes and results sheets were missing and thereafter demanded that the ballot boxes and results sheets be verified.

After the verification exercise, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, FCT, Mr. Steve Bawa Manya, postponed the election around 1 pm till Sunday, stating that the exercise had delayed the election to a time that it was impossible to attain the mandatory eight hours needed to conduct the election.
