‘OBJ should appear before probe panel’

06.04.2008

The Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Suleiman Abdurra-haman Kawu, has called for the invitation of Olusegun Obasanjo to the House Committee on Power and Steel to explain his involvement in the N16b power deal, saying there is no way the committee will get the desired answers concerning the billions of naira expended in the power sector if the former president did not testify before it.

Hon Kawu made the call in Kano, saying it was only important that those involved in the deal come before the committee to tell Nigerians what really happened to the fund.

He lamented that the power sector had held the nation to ransom over the years and that the shocking revelations was the last thing Nigerians wanted to hear about the problem of the sector.

Hon Kawu, a lawmaker representing Sumaila federal constituency from Kano State, said so much had been expended on the sector and if the records were not put straight by the House, any money released could go the same way.
