Union Bank director advocates PPP

The Executive Director, Commercial Banking, Lagos of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Dr. Kenneth Adeyemi, has called on the federal and state governments to collaborate with the private sector in their bid to solve socio-economic problems facing the country.

Dr Adeyemi made the call at the presentation of a Toyota Hilux double cabin van to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

He said the socio-economic problems in the country were too numerous for any government to solve, adding that similar problems in the developed countries were solved by public-private partnership.

He said though Nigeria began the application of public-private partnership (PPP) as basis for infrastructural development lately, there were still opportunities for corporate organisations to collaborate in solving the problems by enhancing their social responsibility budgets.

According to Adeyemi, the bank had been in partnership with various institutions in the health sector by building and equipping medical centres and clinics nationwide.

This, according to him, was with a view to addressing the problems associated with the sector.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief Medical Director, LUTH, Professor Akin Osibogun, said the hospital was the biggest in Lagos with over 800 bed spaces and largest concentration of specialists in the medical field.
