States shun FRSC’s directive on crash helmets

THE implementation of the directive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on the use of crash helmets by commercial motorcycle riders and their passengers may have suffered a setback in some states.

It was learnt that most state governments have failed to support the implementation, while members of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) have refused to comply with the directive because they are having their state governments’ support.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that as a result of this development, the national headquarters of the FRSC directed that a committee be set up in each of the states of the federation to find a solution to the problems that might have been generated by the introduction.

The committee, it was learnt, would have state commissioners for works as chairmen.

Other members will include representatives of the Nigeria Police, State Security Service (SSS), Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the FRSC.
