retirees seek FG’s
intervention
By Yemisi Aofolaju - 06.02.2009
THE Federal Government has
been called upon to intervene and ensure the payment of retirement benefits of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) retirees without further delay.
This was contained in a letter signed by the counsel for the retired members of staff of the electoral body, Mr. O. A. Atoyebi, and sent to President Umaru Yar’Adua, a copy of which was sent to the Senate President, David Mark.
The aggrieved ex-INEC staff, who retired between 2005 and July 2007, were of the view that all formal and informal approaches to the authorities had yielded no result.
The retirees said the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON) was supposed to have paid their benefits, but it was yet to effect such payment.
