My Nations Cup regrets - Taye Taiwo

Olympique Marseille of France defender, Taye Taiwo is still in shock, following the Super Eagles 1-2 loss to the Black Stars of Ghana last Sunday, saying he was disappointed with the outing.

He said in a chat with brilafm.net that the team performed below expectations for its inability to get to the semi-finals, as was in the past three editions.

“I feel that all of us gave our very best for the competition. We tried as much as we could, but I am very sad that we could not go far in the competition. “We actually wanted to win, but I believe it would have been good for us to at least reach the semi-finals, as was the case in Egypt and even two editions before that,” he said.

The former Lobi Stars of Makurdi defender also felt disappointed by not scoring in Ghana in any of the Eagles' games just as he gave glory to God. “I was actually hoping to do well in this competition. I prepared well and told myself I would make a better impact than I did in Egypt, when I scored against Ghana in our first match.

“This time I could not score, but I believe it’s not just that I could not score that makes me sad. It’s more because we could not do well together as a team, and I feel very sad about that,” Taiwo said. Meanwhile, Ex-international, Mutiu Adepoju is still in shock over the Super Eagles' exit from the Nations Cup.

The new helmsman at Shooting Stars Sports Club(3SC) of Ibadan said that he had banked on the lads to pay the Ghanaians back in their own coin. “It was a very sad night for me. I had been hoping for a revenge of Senegal '92 defeat. I was sad to see Ghana win, even with one man short,” he said.
