NIS launches e-passport in Ogun

IN a renewed war against fraud and forgery in the issuance of passport application and acqusition, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State command, on Tuesday launched the e-passport in the state.

The ceremony, held at the command’s headquarter in Abeokuta, had in attendance Governor Gbenga Daniel; the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Apapa; the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Commander, Mr. Olu-Mike Olagunju, among other dignitaries.

Delivering his speech, the Assistant Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Zone A headquarters, Mr. Cajetan Nnamdi, said the e-passport had added security details which would help in checkmating fraud and forgery in its acquisition.

Nnamdi said the introduction of the e-passport was in conformity with the standard set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) so as to make forgery and theft a thing of the past.

“This way, the security of the Nigerian passport is no longer in doubt and its integrity and reputation is enhanced,” he said.
