crutech’s ASUU passes vote of no confidence on VC

Academic Staff Union of Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH), has issued a vote of no confidence on the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Eka Braide.

A letter to the visitor of the university, signed by the union’s chairman and secretary, James Enyam and John Ukam, respectively and made available to newsmen on Monday, gave four reasons they wanted the vice chancellor sacked.

The vote of no confidence is coming just as the strike which the ASUU members in the university embarked upon entered its second week. The four reasons stated by the union includes; “for the VC’s known gross incompetence and lack of capacity to address the protracted problems of the institution for the past four years.”

“Her refusal/inability to open up dialogue with different union executives as a way of furthering peace and harmony within the institution:” “Her policy of employing cronies thereby over bloating the payroll of the university while instituting a deliberate policy of terminating appointments of tested and qualified staff without just cause;”

And “her unsatisfactory explanation on how ETF funds sent to the university had been utilised since her assumption of office.” The union stressed that their congress also note with disgust that the Vice Chancellor is being bugged down by some ethical burdens including, “that her appointment did not pass through due process.” And that “she presented a minority view during the merger of the institutions that formed the state university.

“That in 2003, Professor Mrs. Eka Braide was the chairperson of the visitation panel to CRUTECH. She recommended the removal of the then Vice Chancellor and became a direct beneficiary of this recommendation.”
