CLO carpets Yar’Adua on Ribadu

PiqueD by the tactical removal of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Civil Liberty Organization (CLO) has alleged that his removal was facilitated by the former corrupt public office holders, saying that the removal also signifies the end of the fight against corruption.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune in Jos, the President of CLO Barrister Titus Mann, said with the tactical removal of Ribadu President Umaru Yar’Adua has no moral right again to say his government has zero tolerance for corruption ,adding that the removal raises questions on the commitment of the present administration to fight corruption as claimed.

He said that contrary to the claim and posture of President Yar’Adua on the fight against corruption, the administration has not done anything tangible to show its seriousness on the cankerworm threatening the economic survival of the country.

Said he:” With the tactical removal of Ribadu, the fight against corruption has suffered a great setback. Since President Yar’Adua assumed office we have heard nothing about the prosecution of former governors. Some of them recently boasted that Ribadu would be removed and that is exactly what we are experiencing”.

The CLO boss pointed out that the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro had no legal and constitutional right to send Ribadu on course as claimed, adding that the action of the IGP runs contrary to law establishing the commission.
