Rep tasks Yar’Adua on budget monitoring

A House of Representatives member, Honourable Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, on Thursday asked President Umaru Yar’Adua to constitute a committee that would monitor the implementation of budget in the country.

Nkem-Abonta representing Ukwa Federal Constituency of Abia State said this in a chat with newsmen in Abuja. He lamented the absence of such committee, adding that the development had led to the poor performance of budgets in the federal, states and local governments, The legislator said the concept would make governments accountable to the citizens.

He said the committee would resolve the controversies of the 13 per cent derivation to oil producing states, even as he pleaded that the misdeed of some former Niger Delta governors should not be used to punish the people of the area.
