Dipo Laleye, Minna - 05.07.2009

NIGER State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, may have been cleared by the security reports about an alleged financial wrongdoings perpetrated by him, last year

Following series of petitions against him that he paid himself a sum of N500 million as house rents, whereas, he lived in his personal residence, the government then invited operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) and men of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to look into its record of expenditure from May 2007, to verify if actually the financial transactions took place.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Adamu Usman, told journalists in Minna, at the weekend, that the security reports turned in showed a clean bill of health for the governor, and the government.

Usman said the investigations by the security operatives involved forensic analysis of all financial documents, adding that the reports had been sent to the Presidency and the Attorney General of the Federation for their respective attention.

He added that the reports also showed that the authors of the documents, superimposed the signatures of the governor and that of the former Chief of Staff to a former governor, Dr. Peter Sarki, on the forged documents.
