Sunshine players receive sign-on fees

By Tosin Omojola - 05.05.2008

Players and officials of Sunshine Stars International FC of Akure are in festive mood following the payment of the balance of their sign-on fees by the Ondo State government, the financier of the club.

The players received their entitlements through the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Prince John Ola Mafo, at a colourful ceremony held at the Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor’s office, Akure.

About N28 million was doled out to the players and their officials of the team by the commissioner, who had earlier told Tribunesports recently that the money would be paid.

Speaking at the occasion, Prince Mafo attributed the impresssive performance of the team this season to the financial and moral commitment of Governor Olusegun Agagu to the club, just as he assured that the team which was currently fifth on the Globacom Premier League table, would reciprocate the governor’s gesture by winning a continental ticket for the state at the end of the season.

He also charged the players and the technical crew to be focused towards achieving the goal, while assuring them of the government’s continued support.

Club’s chairman , Chief Kasali Obanoyen, thanked the state government for its commitment to the success of Sunshine Stars with an assurance that the club would live up to expectations.
