Redknapp sorry for leaving Kanu out

PORTSMOUTH manager, Harry Redknapp is sorry for leaving Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu out of Saturday's Premiership game against Middlesbrough which Pompey lost 2-0, saying he won't do it next time.

Kanu made the long journey to Teesside and did not even make the bench but a bereaved Redknapp, who attended his sister-in-law, Frank Lampard mother, Pat's funeral on Friday, promptly apologised to the Super Eagles captain.

"Yes, if you're getting £25,000 a week it really is quite a hardship to get on a train or a plane and come up here. I do feel sorry for him, I'll try not to do it again. He'll survive," Redknapp was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.

"It has been difficult. I wasn't at training yesterday. I don't like to be away from my players on a Friday and I need to get back on to the training ground to liven them up now."
