FG owes NDDC N326bn

Bola Badmus, Abuja - 05.05.2008

Federal Government is owing the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) N326billion, the debt which stakeholders, who met with the Hose of Representatives, urged its payment so that the developmental problems of the volatile region would be adequately addressed.

The need to settle the huge debt owed the commission by the Federal Government was part of a five-point communi-qué issued at the end of a one-day assessment of the seven-year-old intervention agency by the House of Representatives committee on NDDC.

Stakeholders who attended the forum at the House of Representatives included traditional rulers, representatives of youth organisations, market women and NNDC officials.

In the communiqué, the stakeholders were unanimous in blaming the government for its failure to fund the commission set up as an intervention agency to arrest restiveness in the region, adequately.
