I regret my association with Obasanjo - Kwande

An elder statesman and political associate of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, has declared that the revelations about how the former President Olusegun Obasanjo ran the affairs of the country without recourse to the rule of law had made all those who worked with him to regret their association.

Speaking exclusively with the Nigerian Tribune in Jos, Ambassador Kwande who said he was among the 10 advisers of the former president, pointed out that the way Obasanjo played politics towards the end of his administration coupled with lack of regard for the rule of law and due process had robbed him of being called a statesman.

He alleged that most of those who associated with Obasanjo while in power were now regretting. “I regret my association with the former President Obasanjo.. When he was elected, I was one of the 10 people advising him on monthly basis, but today, I am regretting.

“Obasanjo would have been a potential UN Secretary and have his statue erected at every square across the country but he squandered the opportunity. He missed it and those who followed him are today regretting.”
