109 apply for Ahmadu Ali, others’ jobs

ABOUT 109 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are to vie for various elective posts at the convention of the party scheduled to be held on March 8.

Elections into the national offices of the PDP would be held on the day of the convention as the offices had been declared vacant by the party following the resignation of the current holders.

The nomination forms for the national offices are still available at the National Secretariat of the party until two weeks to the National Convention, an indication that more members are likely to join the race.

The National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Dahiru Umar, made this known in Abuja in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, disclosing that the number of contestants notwithstanding, the convention would be the best organised so far.

Of the number of contestants, 25 would be vying for the office of the national chairman which the party had zoned to the South-East, while only four had collected nomination forms for the office of the national secretary zoned to the North-Central.

The offices most keenly sought after include those of the national chairman, deputy national chairman, national secretary (North and South), deputy national secretary, national legal adviser, national financial secretary and national publicity secretary.

Other national offices of the party include those of national treasurer, national women leader, national youth leader, national auditor and national organising secretary.

According to the zoning formula of the party, the South-West would be contesting for the offices of the national vice chairman, national legal adviser four ex-officio members,

The North-West has the offices of deputy national chairman, deputy national treasurer and four ex-officio members to fill.

While the South-South has the offices of national treasurer, organising secretary, deputy national auditor, deputy women leader and national vice chairman, the North-East would be vying for the offices of deputy national secretary, national publicity secretary, women leader, deputy organising secretary and national vice chairman.
