Women sets self ablaze over hairdo allowance

A young mother in Bullumkuttu Ward in Maiduguri, Borno State, has been reported dead at the State Specialist Hospital, after setting herself ablaze, as a result of a misunderstanding which arose due to the husband’s refusal to give the deceased money to do her hair, the Nigerian Tribune gathered.

An eyewitness in Bullumkuttu told the Nigerian Tribune, that Hajiya Hadiza, the deceased, was the daughter of Mallam Umaru, a watchman to Hadiza’s husband, who died a long time ago, leaving behind a daughter in the care of Alhaji Modu’s first wife Laraba.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, Alhaji Modu became interested in Hadiza when she attained womanhood, and thus stopped her from continuing with schooling and took her as wife.
