Reps not investigating state allocations - Speaker

04.05.2008

By Biodun MuhammedTHE Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, has said the House would continue to ask questions on previous appropriations to the various sectors of our national life.

The Speaker said this in a release signed by his Special Adviser on Media Affairs, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, to set records straight that Hon. Bankole did not say the House would investigate allocations to the 36 states of the federation during his recent 2-day official visit to Lagos State.

According to Mr. Akinmade, the reaction became necessary in view of “news report in newspapers and electronic media to the effect that the House is investigating the financial allocation to states of the federation.”

The release added further that “Rt. Hon. Bankole made specific reference to the on-going investigation of the power reform programmes of the past as well as the soon to begin investigation of the oil sector and any reference to Lagos State or any other state is in connection to appropriated fund for federal projects in Lagos State and elsewhere in tandem with the federal system we operate.”

The Speaker encouraged legislators at the state level to live up to their responsibilities by asking their executives questions on fund to ensure people get the best from their resources and prevent mistakes of the past in project implementation.
