Era of political bickerings over — Fashola
04.05.2008
Lagos State gover-nor, Barrister Babatunde Fashola, has described the recent visit of the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, to the state, as a demonstration of the brand of politics the present crop of leaders in Nigeria are ready to play.
The governor, who made the remarks in Lagos , at a forum organised for the Speaker to meet the business community in the state, tagged: Policy Formulation and The Business Environment: Making It Work, stated that the visit of the speaker was very significant since it symbolised it the collective desire of the nation’s political class to engage multiparty democracy.
Fashola, who stated that the Vice President, Dr Jonathan Goodluck, had earlier in the day demonstrated the new spirit of multiparty democracy by mandating him, an AC governor to attend a state function meant for the Vice President, in the state, noted that, ‘In the past, such assignments would have been given to another person of the same party affiliation with the Vice President’.
He argued that politicians should always strive to come together for the common good of the citizenry since the dividends of democracy are usually not distributed along party lines, adding that by coming together, ‘momentous opportunities beckon for us to truly actualise the potentials of this great country’.
