NDDC commissions 44 projects in Ondo State

Yinka Oladoyinbo, Akure - 04.05.2008

The Niger Delta Development Commission has commenced the inauguration of no fewer than 44 projects put in place by the commission across Ondo State .

The projects include school buildings, concrete jetties, health centres and footbridges located across the oil producing areas of the state. Apart from the oil producing communities, non-oil producing local government of Akure South, Ose, Akoko South West, Ese-Odo, Ondo West and Ifedore, also benefited from the projects meant to fast track the development of the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of some of the projects in Ilaje Local Government Area, the commissioner representing the state on the board of the NDDC, Dr. Ibukun Omotehinse, said the projects were put in place to emancipate the people.

According to him, many of the schools in the area were destroyed during the Ijaw/Ilaje communal crisis, hence the need to construct new ones after the war.

Omotehinse added that the commission was ready to solve the problem of water facing the people of the oil producing areas of the state.

To this end, he said contract for provision of water had already been awarded while some communities had already been connected with reticulation and water available for drinking.

Apart from water, the NDDC commissioner added that the commission had also provided land jetties and footbridges for easy connection of people in various communities in the area.
