Makinde pays last respect to Adesanya, Akande - Calls for purposeful governance

More eminent Nigerians have continued to react to the demise of leader of Yoruba socio-cultural group, Pa Abraham Adesanya and Nigeria’s first female Law Professor, Jadesola Akande. In a letter sent to the widow of Pa Adesanya, Mrs. Roseline Arionla Adesanya, the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr Sunday Ola Makinde described Adesanya as a nation builder and an elder statesman.

In a release made available by the Church’s Head of Media and Communications, Reverend Oladapo Daramola, Makinde said “ I write on behalf of the entire people called Methodists in Nigeria and beyond to commiserate with you on the passing on of your dear husband, who is a father and brother to many, a great leader of the Yoruba race nay the nation at large. An astute politician, a nation builder and a leader of leaders.”

“Chief Abraham Adesanya is no doubt a prominent elder statesman, who is many things to many people. Even at 86, Pa Adesanya’s death came to us as a rude shock. This is because of his immense contribution to our national life. We do know that the nation will miss him dearly, even as the family mourns his demise, but we want you to be consoled by the fact that ‘ he fought a good fight, he has finished the race’ and we believe that the crown of righteousness lies ahead of him.”

In a separate release, Makinde described the loss of Jadesola Akande as “another big loss to the nation especially at this point of our socio-political history when we need all the quality hands available in moving our great country forward. We will miss her wealth of experience, brilliance, and reservoir of knowledge. She was a quintessential woman with an impeccable record and achievements worthy of emulation. She is an epitome of the Nigerian woman, humble in success and disciplined to the core.”
