Primary school teachers protest in Rivers

marched through the streets of the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, headed for the the SUBEB secretariat, where they locked all gates to both the staff and visitors.

Expressing their grievance to the press, the Secretary of Education Staff Association of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, Mr. Iyetu Barika, said the authorities were owing them their basic entitlements.

He said government had refused to pay them February 2008 consolidated 15 per cent salary increase; N40, 000 Christmas bonus which was paid to workers in other states in December 2007.
