South West PDP govs meet over convention

THE Southwest caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday met to perfect plans on today’s zonal congress and the national convention of the party coming up at the weekend in Abuja.

The meeting, which took place at the Lagos residence of the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, had in attendance the five PDP governors in the zone. The meeting was said to have been called to enable the Southwest caucus of the party to finalise on the list of party officers in the zone, which would be ratified today in Ibadan.
It was also gathered that the meeting deliberated on the need for

the zone to present a united front and support base for the candidate of former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the chairmanship position of the party. Also in attendance at the meeting was the Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, members of the National Assembly and ministers from the zone. It also had in attendance, Senator Yinka Omilani, the outgoing vice chairman (Southwest) of the party as well as other national officers of the party from the zone.

According to sources, the need for the zone to go ahead and organise a successful zonal congress today and elect zonal and national officers of the party from the zone was among the issues discussed at the meeting.
