LOC on Kanu - Says “I should have been tournament’s ambassador”
04.02.2009

OrumaWILSON Oruma has lashed out at the 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup Organising Committee for selecting Nwankwo Kanu ahead of him as one of three Ambassadors for the tournament.
Kanu, assistant captain for the class of 93, was picked along with the captains of the other two World title winning teams, Nduka Ugbade of the class of 85 and Lukman Haruna of the 2007 group.
Oruma however, faulted the choice, saying he should have been selected instead, since he captained the team.
“I don’t want a situation where what I say will be misconstrued to mean that I am jealous of Kanu. “But I am very sure that Nigerians can’t be deceived regarding the fact that I captained the victorious 1993 Golden Eaglets in Japan. That is a fact that can’t be hidden at all,” Oruma told KickOffNigeria.com from France on Monday.
“If Kanu wants to take the award he can do so. I have nothing against him. The LOC and the people handling football in the country know how they do their things there. So I don’t want to contend or join issues with Kanu on this matter.
“God knows the truth and the people of Nigeria know the truth too. But if anybody wants to cover the truth they can go ahead and do so. I am not bothered but one thing I know for sure is that the truth will always prevail,” Oruma stated.
