SPEAKER of the
House of
Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, arrived Lagos yesterday to begin a one- week tour of the state.
The Speaker was received at the Murtala Muhammed Airport by the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, who said that the tour would enable the state to meet Bankole on how to help resolve the property friction between the state and the Federal Government among other things.
Speaking with Airport Correspondents at the Presidential Lounge, Ikuforiji disclosed that both Houses would use the opportunity to work together on a number of pending issues affecting the Federal and the Lagos State governments.
The Lagos Speaker while describing the state as a pivotal one for others in the federation, added that if the state got it right in all processes, others would follow.
“There is no way we can actually move forward at the pace that we desire if the Federal Government doesn’t give us a helping hand,” Ikuforiji said.
He also disclosed that there was an ongoing dialogue between the State House of Assembly and the National Assembly for a constitutional amendment and that the salient areas would be how to lessen the causes of friction among the states.
