Abandoned MTN Project

I hope you would use the same approach to help us solve the problem we have been experiencing with MTN Telecommunications following the abandonment of its cell radio installation (Mast Project) sited at Oke-Gbayan, Iware, near Fiditi in Afijo Local Government Area, Oyo State.

As you know, sir, the importance of a free flow of information through telecommunication which would connect our town to the global village cannot be over emphasised. To this end, we shall be grateful if this request could be published in your widely read newspaper for prompt action.

Why Nigerian Varsities Need To Improve On Practicals

SINCE the advent of the university education in Nigeria, the institutions have always been prone to theory, unlike the polytechnics which have always laid emphasis on practical works. The courses in universities’ academic curricula are 80 per cent theoretical while only the remaining 20 per cent is left for practicals.

This arrangement has often given Polytechnic graduates an advantage over their university counterparts, especially when it comes to the practical aspect of what they learnt in their various institutions. With things as they are the Nigerian universities are being worse off in coping with the practical aspects of their various designated fields.

Although university graduates are regarded as the best in the country when it comes to theory, this high rating has not been availing them much as employers prefer to employ those that can be more productive when it comes to the practical aspects of their professions.

If the Nigerian universities would epitomise learning as it so desires, it has to give the higher percentage of its studies to practicals; this would boost the technical quality of their products and make them function more efficiently in their various fields.

I wish to appeal to the West African Examinations Council(WAEC) in respect of an irregularity in my result. My name is Alonge Matthew Olugbemiga, born on 28 September, 1982, but my date of birth on the result slip was written as ‘March 22, 1982, thus raising suspicion on the ownership of the result.I sat for the exam in June 2001 at Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther Memorial High School, Osoogun, Oyo state and my candidate number is : 4311603014. Iwill be grateful if the correction can be done to save my educational career.
