We’ll resist imposition of PDP chairman - Apugo

A member of Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and national chairmanship aspirant of the party, Prince Benjamin Apugo, has asked his colleagues vying for various positions in the party to show good example by ensuring that the elections to all party positions during the coming congresses and a convention are peaceful, smooth and free and fair.

Apugo told his party members to jettison the idea of turning the congresses and convention of the party and indeed every election in Nigeria to a “do or die affair”, stating that the era of imposition of surrogate in position of authority is over.”

The PDP chieftain, who is one of the founding fathers of the party ,spoke in an interactive session with journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, saying the party’s convention to be held on March 8, 2008 would produce the best materials that would consolidate democracy in the country.

He flayed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for introducing imposition of candidates and unnecessary struggle for power in the party, praising the Nigerian judiciary for living up to the belief that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

He also asked the state government to work for the people and called for the immediate reconstruction and re-opening of all ailing and defunct companies owned by it, saying that is one of the measures to create employment opportunities.

He also advised the state governemnt not to embark on what he called white elephant projects.
