Poor state of pitches worries Ogunjobi

Nigeria Football Association (NFA) technical committee chairman, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has expressed concern over the poor state of pitches in some stadia in the country.

In a chat with Tribune-sports during the week the Osun State FA chairman condemned the condition of most of the stadia being used for league matches.

The former NFA scribe bears his mind after watching a Globacom Premier League match between Niger Tornadoes of Minna and Bayelsa United of Yenagoa last weekend.

The match which was shown live by the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) was played at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

Ogunjobi, who watched the encounter on television, bemoaned the state of the pitch of the stadium, describing it as an eyesore.

“I am not comfortable yet with the standard of our league particularly the poor state of pitches. Look at the Minna Stadium, the players were not able to express themselves because the pitch was full of sand it was nothing to write home about,” he said.

Ogunjobi, however, tasked the Nigeria Football League (NFL) to ensure that only stadia with good pitches were approved for league matches.
