Obasanjo, Nigeria’s best president ever - Maduka

By Bukola Olajide - 02.05.2008

FIRST Nigerian Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr. Vincent Maduka, on Thursday described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the greatest president Nigeria ever had.

In a lecture he delivered at this year’s edition of the House of Lords annual lecture and luncheon, Maduka said Obasanjo was not as bad as many people were portraying him.

“Obasanjo has been the greatest president Nigeria ever had. He introduced a lot of things to Nigeria in his tenure. We sincerely hope history will vindicate him,” he said.

Maduka’s lecture entitled: “P&T, GSM and Beyond,” was read by his wife, Olutunmbi, at the event held at the Jogor Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The annual event, which is the 19th edition, is held by a group of distinguished Nigerians that cut across various professions who have come to be known as “The House of Lords.”

Six new members were inducted this year and they included Mr. Olumide Oyediran, Mr. Muyiwa Ige and Mr. Tunde Aiku.

Justice M.O. Onalaja, the leader of the House of Lords and past leaders and members, were also present at the event.

They include Chief Ilemobayo Akinnola, the first leader of the body; Professor A.B.O.O. Oyediran, who is also a past leader; his wife, Omotola; Justice Omololu Thomas, the patron of the body; and Oba Michael Olusegun Adesina, the Olowu of Owu Ijebu.
