Go and face panels, cleric tells OBJ

Adewale Ajayi, Lagos - 02.05.2008

An appeal has been made to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to appear before the various panels investigating the alleged misdeeds by his administration in order to clear his name.

Making this appeal in Lagos was the chairman, North central zone of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Yakubu Pam, saying the revelations from the various probe panel investigating contracts awarded during his tenure was an indication that the eight years rule of Chief Obasanjo was a disappointment.

According to him, “when he came in, we were all very enthusiastic and we thought that a man that is virtuous has just taken over power in Nigeria. Many of us preached about him and we were very proud of him, but the various revelations have made all of us to have an unfortunate rethink. It is massively disappointing because, if those things are true, then it is very unfortunate.”

Pam, who was at the Ministers and Leaders Conference organised by the Partnership for A New Nigeria (PFANN), noted that the absurdity of the revelations coming from the various probe panels makes it mandatory for him to clear his name.
