EKITI State Commissioner for Lands,
Housing and Environment, Alhaji Yakubu Sanni, has been alleged to have single-handedly awarded an N800 million waste cleaning contract to a childhood friend, but the commissioner denied the allegation, saying it was a mischievous rumour spread by some misguided people.
A top functionary in the administration of Governor Segun Oni, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the commissioner awarded the contract to O’la Kleen, an Ilorin-based waste cleaning service company owned by his bossom friend without undergoing the normal due process, which has been the hallmark of the Governor Oni-led administration.
“We were dazed that a commissioner can single-handedly award a contract with such a large amount without subjecting it to due process. What becomes the fate of thousands of women who were recently employed by the state government to sweep and clean the state capital, Ado-Ekiti if they are awarding another contract of such huge amount for the clearing of the Ado-Ekiti metropolis?” the source said.
