‘Imo, Abia Top Applicants Into Federal Civil Service’

THERE are more applicants for appointments into the federal civil service from Imo and Abia States than any other states of the federation, the representative of Imo and Abia States in the Federal Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Umez Eronini, has said.

Eronini, at the Government House, Umuahia on Friday, during a visit to the Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, said that vacancies available to the two states "do not conduce with the number of applicants that inundate the commission."

Eronini, who said the situation created serious problems, therefore, advised that the two state governments should devise strategies to ensure that university graduates do not conceive the civil services of either the federal or state governments as the only source of employment.

She advised that practical skills for self employment and actualisation should be given priority among the people so that graduates would remain relevant to the developmental needs of the national economy.

She also advised that South-East states should structure their educational system to meet emerging developmental goals, stressing the need for training and retraining of staff to encourage output.

Also speaking, Orji, who made case for graduates of Abia and Imo State origin in the FCSC, appealed to the commissioner to use her offices to come to the aid of the two states.
