Oyo Govt Gives New Condition For Teachers’ Promotion

Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has stated that promotion of teachers in the state will be by examination and interviews as against the previous arrangement of automatic promotion which he described as detrimental to the progress of education.

According to a release by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Barrister Abraham Ojo, GovernorAkala stated this while receiving the President of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals (ANCOPPS) Oyo State branch, who led the officers of the branch to the governor on a coutesy call.

The Governor noted that “much as the present administration is all out to provide sufficient funds and adequate logistics to the sector so as to enhance conducive teaching and learning atmosphere, the attitude of some operators leaves much to be desired”.

He urged the leaders in the sector to to instill discipline on erring members, stressing that it is the only way through which they could write their names in gold in the sector.

According to the governor, “the educational sector is of paramount importance to the overall development of both the individual and the society”, hence his resolve to provide adequate funds to encourage the operators and make them to be more committed in the discharge of their duties.

Towards this end, the release said, “Governor Akala has ordered the immedaite release of the second term running grant to all the schools as well as the release of a Toyota Hiace Bus to the ANCOPPS with a promise to give urgent priority to the payment of other allowances”.

The governor uged all and sundry to “let us put our educational sector in a proper perspective so as to create a better future for all.”

On the issue of promotion of teachers and principals, the governor urged the TESCOM chairman to reach out to the retired, experienced, committed and dedicated principals, who have demonstrated love in the education sector to serve as consultants and if possible, inspectors as a means of further instilling discipline in the educational sector.Earlier in his remarks, the ANCOPPS President, Oyo State branch, Mr Adeniyi Falade said the boyd was constitutionally duty bound to work in tandem with the government for the betterment of the educational sector.
