Ebonyi Seeks To Evolve Model Capital City

Determined to develop a model capital city comprising designs and veritable landscaping for the Ebonyi State capital, Abakaliki, the State government has made adequate budgetary provisions in the 2008 Appropriation Bill.

The provision would ensure that the Board of the Abakaliki Capital Territory Development achieves its task of planning and regulating the physical development of the city.

The state Governor, Chief Martin Elechi, made the declaration in Abakaliki on the occasion of the commissioning of the capital territory boundary signpost, utility vehicles and renovations of temporary office blocks on Thursday.

Elechi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Mr. Jonah Egba, said that the master plan for the capital city would be ready within three months.

He urged the board to initiate a meeting of the stakeholders, geared towards achieving a planned capital that would stand the taste of time.
