ICPC Arraigns LG Boss Over N11.82m

The Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)has arraigned the former chairman of Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Mr. Nathaniel Ngo Sylva, for alleged misappropriation of N11.82 million.

Sylva, who through the alleged act has violated the provision of ICPC Act, was arraigned on a 20-count charge.

Counsel to the ICPC, Mr. Kabir Elelu, told the court that Sylva corruptly gave two councilors N4 million when no contract was awarded to them.

He added that as public officers, they were not entitled to the money, noting that it was an offence punishable under Section 19 of the ICPC Act.

Elelu alleged further that Sylva in August 2006 corruptly gave N800,000 each to eight councilors of the council.

He said they were not entitled to the money. He averred that the accused gave N3.42 million as allowances to two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when they were not a staff and were not entitled to the money.
