You’re not bigger than ANPP, Buhari told

Dipo Laleye, Minna - 02.01.2008

The presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the last general election, Major General Mohammadu Buahari’s face-off with the national leadership of the party has drawn criticisms from a National Assembly member of the party who told the former military ruler that he could not be greater than the party.

The member of the House of Representatives representing Shiroro and Rafi federal constituency of Nigert State, Honourable Samuel Kuta, said in Minna on Monday that the party was superior to any of its members and, as such, all true members must toe the line drawn by the national leadership.

Speaking against the backdrop of the disagreement between General Buhari and the national leadership of the party over the decision of the party to withdraw its petition from the election petition tribunal, Kuta said the decision of the party was binding on all members of the ANPP.

“It is only Buhari that knows why he is at war with the party. All I can say is that everybody must respect the party,“ Bala said. He added that instead of engaging the leadership of the party in any form of war, “he (Buhari) should come to a round table to resolve whatever disagreement he might have.

Notwithstanding the feud in the party, Kuta said the “ANPP is still intact,” adding that what was being experienced now was a minor crisis which was not peculiar to the ANPP.
