Cholera kills 10 in Benue

Ten persons have been confirmed dead as a result of an outbreak of cholera in Gbajimba, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The state Ministry of Health on Tuesday confirmed the outbreak of the epidemic and the number of lives lost to it.

According to an official of the ministry, who craved for anonymity, steps were being taken to put the situation under control.

The source disclosed that the ministry had drafted its personnel to the affected area to tackle the disease.

According to him, the ministry had contacted the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, on the outbreak.

He said vaccination had also commenced in the area. According to a villager, they had resorted to using the native medicine in treating those who were found to have the disease, adding that they used native gin and local herbs to treat the patients.
