Shell approves N30m secondary school in Ughelli North LG

SHELL Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has approved N30 million for the building of a befitting permanent site for the newly-reopened Omavovwe Secondary School, Omavovwe-Agbarha in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, as part of its efforts to develop host communities.

This was disclosed at the Annual General Conference (AGC) of Omavovwe community by the outgoing President-General, Mr. Vinomor Ukoba, who revealed that SPDC management has concluded plans for the take-off of the secondary school permanent site project this month.

He commended the management of SPDC for approving N30 million for the development of the community secondary school, which was re-opened recently by the Delta State government.

Mr. Ukoba recalled that the school was closed down in 1985 by the defunct Bendel State government, adding that the re-opening of the school had now brought secondary education closer to the people of the community.

He disclosed that the state government had donated 120 desks to the school for its take-off, noting that the community on its part had renovated a block of four classrooms for the temporary use of the school.

While charging youths of the community to take advantage of the school to acquire secondary education, Mr. Ukoba appealed to parents and guardians alike to advise their children and wards to shun violence and embrace peace and dialogue while parents should take more active roles in the proper upbringing of their children.
