We won’t attend Oyo Obas’ meeting - Ibadan chiefs

01.05.2008

THE Olubadan-in-Council has reaffirmed its determination to embark on an indefinite boycott of meetings of the Oyo State Obas and Chiefs.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council, presided over by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana, Odugade 1, in Ibadan, on Wednesday.

The thirteen-man council said “any Ibadan High Chief, district head or “Baale”, who violates the instruction henceforth, would have himself to blame.

The council, also decided to effect a shake-up in the membership of each of the traditional Councils of the eleven local government in Ibadanland.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Prince Dotun Oloyede, said the council expressed its displeasure in the state government’s interference in the membership of traditional Councils.

It described Federal Government’s five percent allocation to traditional councils as statutory and not a favour from the state government.

The council then advised that the traditional councils’ allocations should not, therefore, be tempered with by the State Government.
