FCT probe: Senate uncovers N11.5bn contract without design

THE Senate Committee probing the activities of the FCT Administration on Wednesday discovered that the N11. 5 billion contract for the provision of infrastructural facilities in Karshi, FCT, was awarded without a project design.

Karshi is one of the satellite towns created by the past FCT Administration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the FCT authorities had already paid N2.16 billion as mobilisation fees to SCC, while the company was yet to commence work, 15 months after the contract award.

The contract, with a 24-month completion period, was meant to provide roads, water, electricity and sewage systems for the town.

At Bwari, another satellite town, the story is slightly different as SCC and Arab Contractors, the companies handling the project for the area’s infrastructure, complained of paucity of funds.

However, construction work on the Jikwoyi/Karshi road had reached about 50 per cent completion.

More than 10 kilometres of the 18.7-km-road, awarded at the cost of N4.8 billion, had been completed by Arab Contractors.
