Osun Tribunal Accepts Election Materials As Exhibits
01.03.2008
The second panel of the Osun Election
Petitions Tribunal on Friday accepted to examine all materials used in the April 21, 2007 legislative election.
The tribunal, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, accepted exhibits which were presented at the senatorial petition tendered by Mr. Mudashir Hussein of the AC.
Hussein tendered the voluminous report in support of his petition filed against the declaration of PDP’s Sen. Isiaka Adeleke as winner of the Osun-West senatorial election.
Counsel to Hussein, Mr. Yinka Okedara, had, on February 23 applied to the tribunal for the admittance of the report of physical inspection of electoral materials.
Counsel to Adeleke, Mr Wahab Egbewole, objected to the application contending that the report of the physical inspection was not front-loaded in line with the Practice Direction for Election Petitions Tribunal.
Delivering his ruling, Justice Barka declared that once the documents were relevant to the case and they were public documents, they were admissible.
