Don’t Bow To Doctors’ Demand - SSAUTHRIAI Tells Grange

THE Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) has warned the Minister of Health, Prof. Adenike Grange, against acceding to the demand of medical doctors for exclusive salary structure.

The association said there was no justifiable reason for doctors nationwide to earn a different salary structure, declaring that any attempt to introduce it will ignite industrial crises in the health sector.

In a petition addressed to the health minister and signed by the association’s National Secretary, M. O. Akinade, a copy of which was made available to Saturday Tribune, SSAUTHRIAI expressed surprise at the clamour by Nigerian Medical Association to resurrect Medical Salary Structure (MSS) for doctors.

The association pointed out that it “sees no justifiable reasons for the doctors to earn a different salary structure except it can be proved or established that a new job evaluation has been done to show that the doctors are more special than other health professionals in our tertiary health institutions.”
