Yar’Adua refuses to spend security votes in 6 months

The Appropriation Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives have discovered in the process of passing the 2008 budget that President Umaru Yar’Adua has refused to spend his security votes from May 29, 2007, when he took office to December 31, 2007.

The President was said to have refused to yield to every attempt to have him sign cheques to dip hands into the security votes.

The discovery was made by the Appropriation Committees of the two chambers of the National Assembly during the budget defence sessions.

It was discovered that President Yar’Adua was yet to utilise a single kobo from the security votes, despite the fact that the funds are monies he could spend without rendering accounts.
